IDENTIFYING ACROBAT ANTS

Acrobat ants get their name from the way they raise their abdomen over their head when disturbed, almost like a balancing act. While small in size, their nesting habits can cause big issues for homeowners.

Size/Color:  1/8 inch long; light brown to black, sometimes with reddish coloring.

Habits: Nest in moist or decaying wood, insulation, and foam boards. Forage in long trails looking for sweets and proteins.

Problem: They strip insulation from wires, invade damp wood, and can bite when threatened.
